Our work mainly revolves around building disputes, the insurance industry and concerned property owners. We, as Forensic Engineers, are regularly required to act as Expert witnesses in the court of law to present our findings and defend our engineering investigation reports. For insurance related projects, our forensic engineering assessments vary greatly from cracking and movement of buildings, damage due to insurable events such as fires, vehicle and tree impacts, all the way to assessing retaining walls and fence structures. Detailed Forensic investigations of damaged structures to identify the exact root causes of damage and appropriate rectification method is all part of our day to day work. A successful candidate is an Engineer with passion, dedication and high confidence.

Your tasks and responsibilities

✓ Regular site inspections of distressed residential, commercial and industrial structures and writing unbiased independent engineering reports;
✓ Engineering assessments of building distress from cracking and movement related damages, damages due to insurable events such as fires, vehicle and tree impacts, all the way to assessing structural condition of ‘as-built’ structures such as retaining walls, basements apartment buildings etc;
✓ Detailed Forensic investigations of damaged structures to identify the exact root causes of damage and providing appropriate rectification methods as part of daily work;
✓ Acting as an Expert witness in the court of law, on regular basis, to present findings and to support engineering investigation reports.
✓ Carry out site inspection for residential, commercial, and industrial properties;
✓ Investigate the origin and cause of failures, damages or defects in the residential, commercial, and industrial buildings;
✓ Analyze the failure of building systems, determine the cause of failures, evaluate the quality of construction and review design or maintenance procedures;
✓ Perform field investigations, lead multi-party examinations and documentation of damaged property;
✓ Write detailed, well-structured and easy to understand forensic engineering reports on distressed structures;
✓ Recommend and offer practical and economical solutions to technical problems;
✓ Contribute to innovative and technical improvement of projects and designs;
✓ Provide detailed scope of works for repairs that are easy for Builders to cost;
✓ Manage key stakeholders and reporting back to them on technical issues;
✓ Meeting KPIs and ensure turnaround times are met;
✓ Attend VCAT hearings if required.

Skills & Experiences

✓ Minimum Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering recognised by Engineers Australia;
✓ Master’s degree or PhD in civil or structural engineering is a plus;
✓ Minimum 7 years of local experience in Forensic investigation and report writing (Industrial, Residential, and commercial);
✓ Endorsed Building Engineer is highly desirable.
